For the present year, Indonesian Textile Producers Association (API) has set up an export sales target of touching US $10.6 billion. This projects a 10 percent rise compared to 2007.
Although the textile industry operates in the midst of various difficulties like higher production costs and fierce competitions in the international market, authorities are quite sanguine of achieving these aspiring export targets.
“We expect new investments worth $500 million, for technology upgradation in the textile industry during 2008, which would enhance production to 1.3 million tons from 1.2 million tons last year,” Mr Benny Sutrisno, Chairman, Indonesian Textile Producers Association told, Fibre2fashion.
The Chairman also said, “Last year, Indonesia held only 1.8 percent of the global textile market share, but, to outperform this figure, we are now drafting more programmes related to modernization of machinery in textiles.”
The country will also try to curb the inflow of smuggled textile and apparel products from China and Taiwan.
