USA : Lubbock Mayor acclaims Indian textile scientist

Lubbock, USA is the mecca of cotton production and research. Honorable David Miller, the Mayor of the City of Lubbock in his letter of November 2nd, 2007 has congratulated Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar for his “Top Twenty under 40 Award.”
In his appreciation message, Mayor Miller has applauded Dr. Ramkumar with these words, “your devotion to making the community, and world, better place sets a wonderful example for other young professionals.” Dr. Ramkumar is the only Indian citizen in the group of Twenty Top Young People honored in Lubbock, USA.
Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar is in charge of the Nonwoven and Advanced Materials Laboratory at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tec University, USA.
Dr. Ramkumar was recognized in October in Lubbock, USA with the Twenty under 40 Award for his invention of novel nonwoven military wipe and his efforts in promoting USA-India tie-ups in nonwoven and technical textiles field.
Dr. Ramkumar for the past four years has been championing the growth of technical textiles and nonwovens in India. He frequently presents seminars about the emerging opportunities in technical textiles with the aim of attracting investments to India.
He recently presented a workshop on India on December 6th in the “Future of Wipes-2007,” conference organized by IntertechPira in Atlanta, USA.
This presentation was jointly authored by Mr. J. N. Singh, Textile Commissioner, Government of India and Mr. M. Mallyah, Founder and Director of Bangalore based TecniTex Nonwovens, Ltd, a consultancy firm that promotes the growth of technical textiles in India.
Dr. Ramkumar is the only person of Indian nationality and textile scientist among the twenty young people to receive the congratulatory message from the Mayor of the City of Lubbock.
This recognition brings enormous international visibility for India, which can enable the growth of technical textiles and nonwovens industry in India.
