Twenty of the UK’s most talented young designers have been awarded New Generation (‘New Gen’) sponsorship by the British Fashion Council to show in the exhibition and on the catwalk at London Fashion Week February 2008.
The recipients of New Gen, sponsored by Topshop are:
Catwalk sponsorship: Christopher Kane, Duro Olowu, Erdem, Krystof Strozyna, Louise Goldin, Marios Schwab, MeadhamKirchhoff, Todd Lynn
Exhibition sponsorship: Anna Vince, Borba Margo, Charlotte Olympia, David David, Emilio de la Morena, Felder•Felder, Hannah Marshall, House of Holland, Justin Smith, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto and Poltock & Walsh.
The BFC established New Gen, the most internationally recognised talent identification scheme in the UK fashion industry in 1993.
Since that date, New Gen has helped establish many great British designers including Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Julien Macdonald, Boudicca, Sara Berman and more recently Giles and Jonathan Saunders.
Topshop is continuing its support of the New Gen scheme for the thirteenth consecutive season. Bolstering the careers of some of the most exciting design talents in London, Topshop has additionally supported those passing through the scheme by providing show venues and by collaborating with the designers to produce special collections, available during London Fashion Week.
London Fashion Week February 2008 New Gen first time catwalk recipients are Krystof Strozyna whoshowed his MA collection of beige fifties couture inspired sharp tailoring with exaggerated waists punctuated by dominant outsized jewellery, as part of Central St Martins’ London Fashion Week showcase in February 2007; and MeadhamKirchhoff, also Central St Martins’ graduates, who launched in 2002 with a menswear collection and added womenswear to their portfolio with a debut A/W ‘06/07 collection at Fashion East.
MeadhamKirchhoff’s femme fatale silhouettes and corset dresses are worn by the likes of Courtney Love and Kylie Minogue.
Exhibition sponsorship recipients are David David, whose recent collaborations with Fred Perry’s ‘Blank Canvas’ project and House of Holland has attracted many celebrity fans such as Daisy Lowe; Felder•Felder whose cool looks remain feminine by using silk fabrics with edgy details; Hannah Marshall, who incorporates tactile Braille messages into her collections which focus on the classic ‘Little Black Dress’;
