At the opening ceremony of the three day fair in Bangladesh inaugurated by Abdur Rashid Sarker, Secretary of Ministry of Textile and Jute, eminent speakers noted that Jute made products, especially value added goods used for various purposes, can garner a great deal of foreign currency for the country.
Being a natural fibre, jute has been adopted by the world at large and its uses have increased greatly creating employment opportunities in Bangladesh.
The fair was organized at a city hotel on November 30 by Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) under the Ministry of Textile and Jute.
Similar events have been organized in various districts of the country to promote small scale projects by local entrepreneurs. Apart from the conventional uses of Jute, the fibre can be blended with other raw materials to produce value added products for catering to the changing and volatile demands of the market.
More than 40 stalls were constructed at the fair showcasing a variety of jute items like school bags, shoulder bags, vanity bags for women, coin purses, wall hangers, shataranjis, carpet, curtains, bed covers, cushion, sofa and pillow, hot carrier bags, suitcases, brief cases, travel bags, fabric based products as well as greeting cards made from jute stick.
