Turkey : EU slurps up lion share of carpet exports

Turkey has been supplying carpets to EU markets for more than a decade and exports for the same have increased by over 47 percent as compared to last year.
Recently, EU countries have surpassed the Middle East in importing the most number of Turkish carpets produced.
The period between January to October 2007 saw the exports of carpets reaching a value of US $786.3 million.
Compared to 2006, in the first nine months of 2007 exports of hand made carpets reached a sale volume of $97 million, which was an increase by 19.7 percent.
On the other hand carpets weaved by machine reached a total sales volume of $585 million and increased by 35.5 percent compared to last year.
Nearly 27 EU countries received carpet exports from Turkey worth $153.2 million. Moreover, Turkey aims to achieve a target of one billion by the end of this year.
