The P330 series has same properties as the TRH50 fiber that is one of Mitsubishi Rayon’s high strength carbon fibers but will have an increased filament count (50-60k).
The P330 series will have better processability compared with other carbon fibers with a similar tow size and with the additional benefit of higher strength and higher modulus. We expect this new product will change the composite’s industries understanding of PAN based carbon fiber that is designed for commercial and industrial applications.
The Mitsubishi Rayon Group is one of the leading manufacturers of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fibers, which encompasses the production of AN (acrylonitrile) monomer, precursor, carbon fiber (regular size), prepreg and finished products such as golf shafts through an integrated production system.
The carbon fiber market has been growing in sports, leisure applications and various industrial applications, as well as aerospace applications. This growth has resulted in a steady increase in demand, and the market is now expected to top 45,000 tons by 2010. With the expanded applications for number of industrial use including emerging new automobile-related market, Mitsubishi Rayon recognizes the need to develop new carbon fiber products to meet the demand.
In these circumstances, Mitsubishi Rayon have developed new products and launch the PYROFIL P330 series which realize both enhanced processability and properties. We will expand our marketing activities especially into larger composite parts such as wind turbine blade, automotive and pressure vessel.
Achieving the same properties, consistency and appearance quality, this new fiber will considerably enhance the conversion of carbon fiber into mid-stream material (i.e. prepregs, preforms) and to direct processing methods (i.e. filament winding, pultrusion, etc.) The P330 series will fulfill the original promise of increased productivity by using large tow carbon fiber.
Larger scale composite parts (i.e. wind turbine blades, Marine, Infrastructure) and various industrial applications including automotive parts and pressure vessels.
