Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex has announced a worldwide price increase for nitrile latex used in the manufacture of gloves. Effective January 1, 2008, the price of nitrile butadiene (NB) latex for glove manufacturing will increase from three to five percent (3-5%) worldwide.
Dow Reichhold expects continued escalation in the costs of raw materials, energy and logistics. The company is raising prices on its glove polymers to maintain margins that allow for reinvestment.
“We are focused on developing new polymer technology for the glove industry and our recent product introductions, DR3988 polymer and BP3000 polymer, are proof of our long-term commitment,” said Rob Ewing, global market manager for gloves for the company. “Ensuring acceptable margins through pricing that accurately reflects escalating costs is key to our continuing investment plans.”
Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex and its parent company, Reichhold, Inc., have been part of the glove industry since the 1960s. The company developed the nitrile latex technology that has become the synthetic latex of choice for glove manufacturing. Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex LLC is a 50/50 joint venture of The Dow Chemical Company and Reichhold, Inc.
The joint venture is the world’s largest producer of specialty latex. The company is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, U.S.A.
