First Indian conference of INDA - Association of Non Woven Fabrics Industry was inaugurated by Hon Union Textiles Minister Shri Shankersinh Vaghela today in Mumbai.
The conference themed India-INDA-Win-Partnership aims to link US non-woven industry and technical textile to explore India and establish joint ventures with Indian entities. In his speech Shri Vaghela commended INDA and assured all support for the promotion of this sector, which is expected to annually grow between 10 to13 percent in the coming years.
He said that Government was interested in cooperating and this conference will provide the right support for technical as well as business exchange.
Textiles Minister elucidated examples of limitless applications of non-woven and technical textiles in fields of medicines, civil engineering, automobiles and other emerging sectors.
Shri Vaghela said that expert committee, which was constituted in 2004 for classifying aspects of technical textiles, presented several prospective recommendations in 2006. Now, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh has shown keen interest in textiles and has approved Technology Mission for technical textiles.
Rory Holmes, President of INDA expressed happiness at being associated with technical textiles. He said that since last January, this association has received more than 100 requests to workout detailed business opportunities between the US and Indian entities.
He said India has got a growing 400 plus million middle class and it stands at the level of China of 1989. He said that this group has the potential to develop much faster than the growth rate registered by China. He was also looking forward to Indian companies approaching and seeking knowledge and information regarding the industry.
Dr Ramkumar Seshadri, in his address, stated that INDA and India were both making history by staging this important industry conference. He was happy to note that all stake holders had come on a single platform to enthusiastically participate in this vibrant industry.
