Fit for the tranquil beaches around the world, 'Wendell Rodricks’ “Goa Spa” collection for Spring/Summer 2008 at Lakme Fashion Week reflected the beauty of the designer’s home state.
The all-white unstructured men’s and women’s line was in typical Wendell style – flowing fabrics, loose shapes, asymmetric cuts, innovative construction, fine detailing and a comfort that will put the wearer at complete ease.
Choosing from a collection of fabrics that could fit into his fine tailoring; Wendell used georgette, chenille, linen, herringbone, hand-woven super soft cotton, organza, silk, lycra, satin and chiffon, for garments that had a mix of very short or fluid long shapes.
Fabrics were cut in geometric shapes to allow them to fall into place over the body in the most innovative manner.
From camisoles to tunics, capris, trousers, palazzos, skirts, blouses, dresses to men’s kurtas, and shirts the garments were layered to achieve their individual shapes that are a unique quality of Wendell’s designs.
Particularly interesting was the white satin lined georgette single seam dart free asymmetric mini constructed with multiple rows and the multi width pin tucks at hip level.
Also eye catching was the white crepe lined dart free sari tunic with the same dealing which helped the garments to mould themselves to the curves of the body.
The three finale jackets and sherwanis - the former with fine embroidery with French knots were creations of restraint beauty in gold hued taffeta.
For a collection that exudes serenity, the “Goa Spa” range of fluid creations, will allow the wearer to experience beauty and fun, maybe of a spiritual kind.
