According to sources, the country is scheduled to host the next regional handicrafts confab which will be held in 2009.
This was announced by the deputy of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) at the just-concluded 30th Confab of Regional Handicrafts Council held in Thailand from September 1-6.
This is a surprise considering the fact that Iran has not participated in the summit for the past three years. Sources said it only goes on to show the popularity and superiority of Iran's handicrafts compared to other member countries.
ICHTO has also proposed that should the council agree, it is also ready to host the International Handicrafts Conference in 2012.
The country has also desired to volunteer for the post of president of the 2008 international confab in China. India, Qatar and China are vying as well.
