ExxonMobil Chemical Technology Licensing LLC and Thai Paraxylene Company Limited (Thai PX) announced the successful start-up of the first licensed application in Thailand of ExxonMobil's new Olgone technology.
The Olgone process implemented at Thai PX's Sriracha petrochemical complex removes olefinic contaminants from a heavy reformate feed, replacing a traditional clay treatment process. The mixed xylenes separated from the treated heavy reformate are converted to paraxylene as the final product.
Duangporn Teerapabpaisit, Thai PX's Manufacturing Manager, said, "We selected the ExxonMobil Olgone technology because it lengthens the reformate treater cycles and reduces overall costs."
"The clay treaters we replaced had cycles that would have been too short to manage after we complete the expansion of our paraxylene facilities later in 2007. Olgone offered a way to avoid installing new clay treater vessels and reduce the amount of clay waste generated.”
David Starkey, Global Xylenes Licensing Manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Technology Licensing LLC, said, "Thai PX is one of the major paraxylene producers in Thailand. We are very pleased that it has selected the Olgone technology to overcome a significant bottleneck in the mixed xylenes production facilities at its Sriracha refining and petrochemical complex."
