Germany : Prices for new crop at origin remains firm

Spinning mills have obviously still gaps in supply and need for near dates until end of the year 2007. Enquiries reaching the trade were correspondingly terminated. However, the offering prices for available cotton were on replacement basis so high, that contracts could only be concluded with mutual concessions.
Despite many positive news, the prices for new crop at origin continued to be further on firm. Also, the cotton is not yet ready to be shipped. Accordingly, the choice of available growths remains reduced.
Turnovers in the Upland range were as follows registered: Central Asian sorts for prompt and further in the 3rd and 4th quarter 2007 and few quantities for the 1st quarter 2008; West African types for the same period.
From among the ELS/LS varieties were traded: Israel Pima for prompt and Egyptian GIZA 86 as well as Sudan Barakat for the 1st quarter 2008.
