A research team from Nagoya University has made a sparkling discovery! For the first time a natural diamond has been unearthed in Japan!
This precious stone was found in the volcanic rocks of Ehime Prefecture. Tomoyuki Mizukami, one of the members of the research team, said that this discovery contradicted the established theory that country like Japan with active geological movements could not produce natural diamonds.
However, the size of the diamond is about one part per thousand millimeters and cannot be observed even under microscope.
The exact location has not been disclosed but is believed to be somewhere around the city of Shikokuchuo.
Experts say though that the place has no potential for commercial diamond trade.
