RUNWAY AFRICA and The South African embassy will showcase the latest in Afri-chic style during RUNWAY AFRICA 2007, the first couture fashion show dedicated to shining a spotlight on Africa's emerging fashion talent, while providing aid to Africa. The event, presented by Amarula Cream Liqueur, will be held at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. on September 15.
"We're thrilled to showcase the works of five top international couture designers. To have all these great Afri-chic influences in one show will be a first for the D.C. fashion scene," said Clarissa Abban, executive director of RUNWAY AFRICA.
The featured couture designers include: international lingerie designer, Ruby from South Africa, Blokes N' Divas based in Nigeria and Milan, New York's own Harriet's Alter Ego originally from Nigeria, SIKA from Ghana, based in London, and Bezemailan, a duo inspired by Togo and Vietnam, based in Paris.
Each designer will create a signature Yellow Collection item, exclusively for RUNWAY AFRICA, to be auctioned at the end of the couture fashion show, where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Keep A Child Alive, a non-profit organization that provides anti-retroviral drug treatments to children and families living with HIV and AIDS in Africa.
