According to an American auxiliary of famous Japanese retailer Ryohin Keikaku Co, New York's Soho district is slated to get the first Muji outlet in November.
Products made by Muji, which stands for 'Mujirushi Ryohin' that means 'no-name brand', are well-known for their simple design, fine quality and affordable prices.
Sources said the company planned to open the US outlet to compete with other rival retailers expanding their foothold in the country.
The outlet will offer an array of over 2,000 Muji brand items ranging from apparel, furniture and stationery to electric appliances.
Though the Japanese retailer already sells Muji products at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Soho outlet will be the first American branch under its direct control.
Plans are afoot to open a second outlet in Manhattan by 2008 in order to compete with Japanese rival, Fast Retailing Co, known for its Uniqlo brand.
