Germany : Clothing & footwear prices lower in June

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, the consumer price index for Germany rose 1.9% between July 2006 and July 2007. Compared with June 2007, the index rose 0.4%.
In May and June 2007, the year-on-year rates of change were +1.9% and +1.8%, respectively. The estimate for July 2007 based on the results from six Länder was thus confirmed.
Prices were lower than in June 2007 for clothing and footwear (–2.1%), one reason being seasonal sales.
The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, rose 2.0% in July 2007 on July 2006. Compared with the previous month, the index was up 0.5%. The estimate of 27 July 2007 was thus confirmed.
