Did Aishwarya's sexy outfits in 'Dhoom 2' inspire an NRI to ask for the same when she came shopping to India? Or did Elizabeth Hurley swoon over Paaro's exquisite ghaaghra in 'Devdas' and ordered her designers to stitch a replica so that she could don it at her gala wedding to Arun Nayar?
How are Bollywood stars inspiring fashion? Are the ripples caused only in the minds of Indian fashion-conscious youth or is the effect felt globally? Fibre2fashion asked a panel of India's top designers questions on the latest trends in fashion apparel. What is new and what is not, who is wearing it and who is not. You have it all under one roof.
While top fashion designer Jattinn Kochhar does not think what Indian stars wear and shed makes international news, others opine differently. Kolkata-based designer Abhishek Dutta said filmstar fashion has, indeed, influenced people across the globe. He said this is because scores of Indians live abroad and whatever Indian fashion they follow and flaunt is bound to intrigue foreigners. But fashion designer Chaitanya Rao shared Kochhar's view on this.
However, as far as fusion in fashion was concerned, all three agreed in unison that chanting this mantra was the way to go. While Jattinn called it a "great combination of modern and cultural styles", Dutta said, "Being an Indian designer, it is very important to include Indian designs and embroidery into ourcollection. But we also have to keep our foreign clientele in mind." Even Rao agreed that a balance was necessary.
