Colour decisions are vital to the Design, Fashion and Textile supply chain and once again Woolmark is one of the first to release directional trends for the season. Wool continues its ever increasing prominence within the Spring/Summer collections and remains a determining factor in setting trends for 2009.
This season the colour palettes are contradictory and rather uneven: juxtapositions are, however, always tasteful. As a whole the apparent prevalence of neutrals and the relative scarcity of yellow-orange tones give an understated feeling that isn’t too reminiscent of summer.
Strong tones are intense but few and it is the clever combination of a range of more subdued and subtle tones that makes them stand out so vibrantly. To introduce a complementing element sensuous metallised colours, both as solids and as partial effects are introduced.
Key Colour Highlights:
• Subtle neutrals punctuated by bold tints
• Dense synthetic tones complemented by neon white and orangey neutrals
• Sophisticated contrasts of rich golden greens and tender flesh tones
• Refined metallic’s in glittering platinum and antique gold
• Few saturated shades are highlighted by soft neutral tones increasing their impact
• Stylised brights are contrasted with the soft and traditional
• The scarcity of yellow-orange tones allows for cooler and softer palettes
• The colour palettes are contradictory yet tastefully and unusually complementary
