Gone are the days when kameez was paired only with a salwar. From marriages to clothing, this is the age of mix and match and fashion lovers are going about it with an imagination that has no bounds.
As always, cotton is the most sought after fabric this summer, but embellishments go hand in hand with it. According to fashion designer Puja Arya, mixing fabrics and style is the mantra to look good and more importantly, look different.
Her advice is to add laces, frills or sequins to the traditional salwar-kameez to give it a more funky and modern touch. CEO of Delhi-based Bridal Asia, Divya Gurwara said, "Though everyone wants to look chic, they want to give the impression that not too much effort has gone into acquiring that look."
She advises fashion aspirants to have some favourite or neutral-coloured clothes in their wardrobe that can be paired with an embellished stole, for example, or a flashy kurti over basic denims.
According to Gurwara, the colours to choose this summer are frosty almond, Opal gray, shaded roses, lily-pad greens, golden apricot, matte silver, sunrise orange, pinks and lavenders.
According to senior executive with a private firm, Neha Khurana, "These days, one has a wide range of choice. Even matching kurtis with jeans looks good." Commenting on this, Mumbai-based fashion designer Deepika Gehani said, "Western wear looks smart and is easy to carry. To get the best out a mix-and match attire, you can accessorize it with scarves, broad belts with buckles, earrings or a simple bracelet."
