Kenan Koc, President of Socks Manufacturers Association, informed, "Turkey's socks manufacturing sector enjoys third position in the world. Every second European is wearing Turkish socks and 25 percent of people in the world are wearing Turkish socks."
1,650 billion pairs of socks are produced in Turkey and of these pair, 1,350 billion are exported. The rest 300 million are consumed by local market.
The yearly per head consumption is 4 pairs of socks. This shows that one person wears one pair of socks for 4 months. Unfortunately, the consumption in Turkey is very low, but in countries like USA per head consumption is 48 pairs, in Italy 19 pairs and in Japan 22 pairs.
The low socks consumption in Turkey decreased more due to warm weather conditions this year. Kenan Koc further stated, "The local consumption is related to habits and it is also highly affected because Turkey is a warm country. Due to global warming and mild winter conditions in Turkey, the consumption decreased more. But there is no decrease in local production."
