Keeping in line with this objective, the Indian textile ministry has come up with a three year plan to internationally market handloom and handicraft items that range from traditional shawls to wall hangers.
Local designers like Lalrinsangi are helping artisans by providing them with expert knowledge regarding innovative designing for their products. Moreover, this kind of training will help weavers sell their crafts in international markets.
The overall idea is to organize a team of skilled weavers having the capacity to produce quality goods for export. To help artisans improve in this field, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has agreed to act as a primary agency for providing copyright and brand image to the handicrafts.
