The Society of Dyers and Colourists Mumbai Region organised its First annual National Students Competition, “SDC Young Talent Search Competition” under the broad theme of “Colour and Textiles 2007”, in association with the Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, on Saturday 27 October 2007 at the Textiles Committee auditorium in Mumbai.
The day long deliberations were attended by almost 150 participants. The event was sponsored by M/s. Colour Publications, M/s. Colourtex and M/s. ATE Engineering Pvt. Ltd., The Prize Trophies were sponsored by Intertek Testing Services Ltd.
The aim of the SDC Young Talent Search competition, is to encourage Research culture in undergraduate students and help them to become aware of the issues surrounding various aspects of colour and textiles. It certainly seemed very encouraging as entries were received from various parts across India. As part of the sponsorship package, of the 26 students who entered the competition by sending the abstracts, 12 of them were invited at SDC’s expense to present their research.
The SDC Vice President Dr. Sanjiv Kamat presented the prizes to the winners and commented, ‘It is wonderful that, through this competition, so many students have been able to attend this excellent event. Students are the industry’s future and it is very encouraging to see so many undergraduate students participating in the competition.
