Kranthi Kiran Vistakula, a young engineer from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), designed ‘Clima gear’- a smart apparel for controlling fluctuating temperature.
This uniquely designed ‘Climagear’ is equipped with portable air-conditioning system. The temperature within the apparel varies from 14 degree Celsius to 38 degree Celsius and the entire process takes only a few seconds.
It was during his hostel days in Boston that Mr Vistakula got the inspiration to tailor this unusually spectacular garment. He recalled wearing five layers of clothing before stepping out and discarding the same once inside the heated rooms.
After returning to India, Mr Vistakula approached the Ministry of Science and Technology for financial assistance under Technopreneur Promotion Program. Mr Vistakula was awarded with MIT 1K business plan winner and later, he visited National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad seeking further aid.
Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi provided incubation and technical counseling while talks are still on with the Incubation Center at NID. Climagear can specially be useful for military personnel working in high altitudes or in deserts where climatic conditions are unstable.
