The Punjab government will soon set up textile mills in the state, mostly in Ludhiana. The screening committee under the chairmanship of the state chief secretary has approved the manufacturing projects worth Rs 1,500 crore.
The companies that will set up the above projects are Aarti International Ltd, Ludhiana (a textile mill of 60,000 spindles at Chandigarh road, Ludhiana, at a cost of Rs 242.06 crore); Avani Textile Ltd of Sangrur (a manufacturing cotton yarn at Sangrur at a cost of Rs 134.50 crore); Oswal Spinning & Weaving Mills Ltd (an unit worth Rs 143.50 crore); Aggarsain Spinners Ltd (a unit at Ludhiana worth Rs 115.00 crore); Shiva Fibres Pvt. Ltd (a cotton spinning unit at Doraya, Ludhiana, at a cost of Rs 145.21 crore); Grospinz Fabz Ltd (a cotton spinning unit at Muktsar-Jalalabad Road at a cost of Rs 66.79 crore); Vallabh Textiles Company Ltd (an integrated cotton yarn spinning and towel unit at Ludhiana costing Rs 124.71 crore); and Mukesh Udyog Ltd will install 55,200 spindles and processing of weaving units in Ludhiana at a cost of Rs 225 crore.
Besides, Grasim Industries Ltd will enhance the capacity of its cement grinding unit at Lehra Mohabat in Bathinda district and will also set up a 20-mw thermal plant at a cost of Rs 300 crore. Sunstar Overseas Ltd will set up a rice milling plant at rural focal point Meherabanpura, Amritsar, at a cost of Rs 51.76 crore.
