Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese Corporation, plans to expand its integrated China complex to include a compounding unit that will produce advanced engineered compounds for Asia customers.
Ticona, with compounding capacity in North America, Europe and Asia, will build a 15,000 metric ton compounding unit in the recently dedicated Celanese complex in Nanjing, China.
Scheduled to be operational in the first quarter of 2009, the state-of-the art facility will produce compounds for the many advanced engineering polymers in the Ticona portfolio Vectra liquid crystal polymer (LCP), Hostaform polyoxymethylene copolymer (POM), Celanex thermoplastic polyester (PBT), Riteflex thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC-ET), Vandar thermoplastic polyester alloys (PBT) and Fortron polyphenylene sulphide (PPS).
“Our new compounding unit represents another example of Ticona’s dedication to provide the same brand experience to our Asian customers that they already enjoy in the Americas and Europe,” said Ticona Vice President Roeland Polet. “This means we can provide the same grades with the same performance characteristics and the same specifications on a global basis.”
“Our Nanjing compounding unit will support our recently announced Application Development Center in Shanghai,” said Lindsey Deal, Director Asia Business Development for Ticona. “This will enable us to translate applications from other regions of the world, enhancing our ability to develop and expand regional applications based on advanced engineering polymers in the Ticona portfolio.”
Ticona, the technical polymers business of Celanese Corporation, produces and markets a broad range of engineering polymers and achieved sales of $ 915 million in 2006. Ticona has approximately 2.000 employees at production, compounding and research facilities in the USA, Germany and Brazil.
