Without embellishment, inspired by jail – that is what the German label HAEFTLING stands for. At the same time as the opening of the first shop in central Berlin, Germany, HAEFTLING also started its new online shop (www.haeftling.de) on February 21st, 2008, just after relaunching the label.
Whether men’s wear or homeware, every piece in the HAEFTLING collection has its own individual story as, for example, the striking prints drawn by inmates or the elaborately worked up details of tattoo patterns both in the inner and outer life of the collection.
The production of high quality clothing takes place outside of the prison walls due to the lack of know-how within the correctional facilities, but still, 3% of the earnings are donated to organizations as, for example, the “German Coalition to Abolish Death Penalty e.V.” or “Amnesty International”.
Homeware including chopping boards, knife-blocks, aprons, and metal dishes are of a high quality and come up with cool designs. Products like liquor made of pears, cherries, and damsons, which is produced in the Heidelberg prison, and coffee in form of a mild version and organic espresso, both of which are grounded in the prison of Huenfeld, are meant to stimulate the sense of taste. Blankets and bedclothes are produced true to original for customers outside.
Likewise, the men’s wear, which will be complemented by a HAEFTLING women’s collection this summer, comes up with a high-quality streetwear in hard-wearing designs.
The first HAEFTLING store opened in Berlin on February 22nd, 2008.
