The Government fully recognize and acknowledge the contribution of Textile Industry in general and Readymade Garments Industry in particular towards reducing unemployment in the country, The Readymade Garments industry not only gives employment to people but also provides supplement employment to those who are already engaged in job and these kind of jobs are the source of adding income for economic uplifting of people of low income group as this sector is providing employment to mostly unskilled and raw labor, This was stated by Mr. Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, Secretary Ministry of Textile Industries in a meeting with Mr. Bilal Mulla, Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Mr. Shehzad Saleem, Zonal Chairman PRGMEA and other office bearers in Karachi.
Mr. Rauf Chaudhry further said that we will send summary to concerned authorities for continuation of R&D support to this sector as this sector has shown continuous growth in the past despite of all ups & down and political uncertainties, Mr. Rauf directed the members of Readymade Garment Industry to work with faster pace of speed to live in this highly competitive market and endeavor to grasp the opportunities expected from probable pulling out of China from this sector.
Earlier welcoming the Secretary Ministry of Textile Industries the Chairman PRGMEA Mr. Bilal Mulla said that the Readymade Garment industry is top of the line as far as performance is concern and bottom of the line in presenting demands and asking for facilities, Despite of all odds this industry has shown constant growth and upward trend in exports and in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility this sector has provided jobs to 40% of the labor force of Pakistan particularly to the female population of unskilled worker who are not literate enough to perform any other kind of job except stitching & sewing and cutting piece of cloth.
Replying to the question about Research& Development support of Government Mr. Bilal Mulla said that keeping in view of sky rocketing prices of every day items and petrol, increased prices of oil and other public utilities the cost of doing business is also increasing at high speed and to live in this competitive world we have to compete other giants we have to do something to reduce cost of doing business and spend more to abreast ourselves with latest trends in consumer markets and for this purpose we need continuation of R&D support from the Government for another five years and in facilities we only need level playing field as the Governments of our competitors has provided to them.
