Starting with summer 2009, followers of local design will be able to get the earliest first fix on the local fashion front months ahead of the actual season as Sanlam SA Fashion Week (SSAFW) goes live with its new timeline that will launch the summer 09/10 collections of top local designers in April.
In a first for the local industry as well as in its own 13-year existence, the country’s premier fashion showcase will introduce the collections of 34 new and established designers in time for South African retailers to still include them in their summer 09/10 selections and for consumers to get their first glimpse of what to expect almost six months before the looks hit the shelves.
To be held from 2 – 4 April at the newly refurbished The Forum Turbine Hall in Newtown, Johannesburg, the SSAFW Summer 09/10 line-up includes Clive, Stoned Cherrie, Lunar, Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung, Ephymol by Ephraim Molingoana, House of Olé by Olé Ledimo, Abigail Betz , Amanda Laird Cherry, Colleen Eitzen and Tiaan Nagel.
According to director Lucilla Boooyzen, the SSAFW has aligned its show calendar with the retail sector’s forward planning cycles to capitalise on the growing appetite for local design as well as to support designers wishing to export. It will therefore host the annual summer collections in April and the winter collections in October henceforth to allow these collections to be considered for inclusion by local retailers who buy their assortments no less than six months in advance.
