A woman surnamed Xiao, a native of Hunan Province, applies for a travel permit to Hong Kong on Wednesday. A total of 318 Shenzhen residents who do not have Guangdong hukou had submitted their applications for individual visits to Hong Kong on Wednesday, the first day the new rule came into effect.
Under the revised rule, applicants must have lived in Shenzhen at least one year and can be employees of government agencies, institutions, State-owned enterprises, joint ventures, foreign-funded enterprises or self-employed. The Division of Exit-Entry Administration of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau advised residents to apply for Hong Kong travel permits through other channels such as the Internet or by telephone to reduce waiting times at counters.
