A MAN living in Futian District has blamed his father s death on the indifference of security guards in his residential estate. He claimed his father would have survived if someone has tried to help when he had a fall Wednesday afternoon.
Xiao Yusheng, 78, a retired government official, died after the fall in Yitiancun, a large residential estate mainly for government employees, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.
He had fallen face-down as he approached a stone bench in the estate at around 1:30 p.m., the paper quoted a witness as saying.
However, nobody, including the security guards, tried to help the senior man, or even call his family and police, said Xiao s son, whose identity was not disclosed.
Xiao s son arrived about 20 minutes after the fall, finding his father dead, bleeding from the forehead and nose.
My father would have probably survived if someone had simply turned him over, he said.
A man in charge of the estate security said they were afraid of being implicated in the elderly man s accident if they went to help, the paper said.
However, the security department said they had called the police and even sent staff to a nearby police station to report the accident.
There s no surveillance camera installed in the area so were are afraid, said one of the security guards on duty. We thought other homeowners in the estate who witnessed the fall had called an ambulance.
Futian police confirmed that they received a report (of the old man s fall) from a security guard.
The police said the man was dead when they arrived at the scene.
An unidentified operator of the 120 emergency hotline told the paper they had received only one call about the accident at around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, indicating that the call was from the son.
