VISITORS to churches on Meilin Road and Nonglin Road are encouraged to take buses as the roads were expected to be congested on Christmas Eve on Friday.

Shenzhen police revealed a series of traffic controls to be imposed in commercial areas, roads near churches and parks Friday.

Police officers will be on duty to direct traffic on roads near entertainment venues and commercial centers such as Dongmen, Renmin Road South area and King Glory Plaza in Luohu District; Coastal City in Nanshan District; and parks such as Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanic Garden, OCT parks and the Shenzhen Ecological Park.

Police will designate a lane on Hongli Road near Lianhua Hill Park for parking and impose controls on Hongli, Caitian, Lianhua and Xinzhou roads which surround the park.

In addition, police will tighten control of traffic violations such as driving under the influence of alcohol over the Christmas period.

The weather would be cool for Christmas with temperatures expected to drop below 10 degrees Celsius at the weekend, the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

Temperatures would dip to 9 degrees Celsius on Sunday and 8 degrees Monday under the influence of a cold front.

The observatory advised people, especially children and the elderly, to keep warm and maintain ventilation to disperse carbon monoxide when taking a shower.

Drivers should be cautious on roads in northern Guangdong where temperatures in the mountains were expected to drop below zero, the observatory said.
