Rabies vaccine
ABOUT 2,080 doses of imported rabies vaccine arrived in Shenzhen yesterday to replenish vaccine supplies which sold out about two months ago, the city center for disease control and prevention said Tuesday.
The vaccines would be available at 44 public hospitals. More was expected to arrive soon to supplement supplies. Health experts said residents could choose domestic rabies vaccine because the health department had said it was just as effective.
Fugitive caught
AN alleged killer on the run for 19 years was finally arrested in Pingshan New Zone on Monday. The suspect, identified only as Wu, allegedly killed a neighbor in a dispute over a pigeon in August 1991 in his hometown in Anhui Province. He fled his hometown and went to a number of cities before coming to Shenzhen. He allegedly used a false identity to find work as a chef in a factory. Police are investigating.
Official jailed
A CITY urban management bureau official was yesterday sentenced to 13 years in prison after he was found guilty of taking bribes totaling 1.41 million yuan (US$212,030) from two companies in 2006 and 2007. The official, identified only as Gong, was also fined 100,000 yuan by the Yantian District court.
