TEN libraries have so far been built at 10 private schools in Longgang and Bao an districts and Pingshan New Zone.
Funded by Shenzhen Tiantu Education Funds and the Shenzhen Lions Club, the libraries were built to help the children of migrant workers in Shenzhen.
I had never borrowed books from libraries before and didn t have any books apart from textbooks. I am now delighted to have so many books to read after school, said Zheng Cuixiang, a Qiying Primary School pupil in Pinghu Subdistrict, Longgang District, at a launch ceremony for the school library last week.
Each of the libraries, which were built in 10 days, received books worth 30,000 yuan (US$4,550) from the Lions Club.
The libraries were all named Breeze Reading Room. Xiao Xingping, Lions Club supervisor, said it was aimed to plant the seed of care like breeze among students through book donations.
The lions club collected used books from local communities and bought books with the money they raised for charity.
The Shenzhen Tiantu Education Fund had donated 190,000 books to 69 primary schools in villages in Hunan, Hebei, Gansu, Sichuan, Shandong and Yunnan provinces since it was established two years ago.
