TWO electrically powered buses will start operating on bus route No. 202 next month, becoming the first green-energy buses in the city.
Bearing zero emission labels on the sides, the buses will operate on a trial basis from the Futian transport hub to the Minsk World theme park in Yantian District from next month, the power supply authority said.
Some 200 electric buses would be in service for the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen in August if the trials were a success.
The buses are licensed to carry up to 20 people. They have a range of 250 kilometers on a single charge with a maximum speed of about 70 kilometers per hour. It usually takes five to six hours to recharge the batteries.
It is better than driving a private car, driver Chen Wuqiang said while recharging a bus Tuesday.
Four charging stations and 180 power pole points have now been installed in the city to serve electric taxis and private cars.
