MORE than 200 streetlights powered by wind and solar energy installed along Binhe Boulevard are expected to be switched on before the Spring Festival on Feb. 3.
A total of 230 energy-saving streetlights have been installed at an interval of 40 meters along nine kilometers of Binhe Boulevard, Chinese-language newspapers reported.
The green-energy streetlights have a better lighting performance, according to the reports.
Electricity will be used as a back-up in adverse weather conditions.
Each streetlight cost 37,000 yuan (US$5,560) but was expected to save 912.5 kiloWatt hours of electricity each year.
About 70 new-energy streetlights were installed along Qianhai Road in Nanshan District at the beginning of the year.
