A DRIVER who was placed in detention for 15 days for drunk driving had a blood-alcohol content reading of 500 milligrams per 100 milliliters, five times the legal limit.

The driver, identified as Zhou, set a record by hitting the maximum, said police officer Su of Guanglan Traffic Police Squad.

Zhou was caught Tuesday evening at an intersection of Gao erfu Road in Guanlan Subdistrict.

A truck driver, who was identified as Liao, called police after he saw Zhou looking quite drunk when waiting for a green light. The man was staggering and could hardly stand, Liao said.

The country is mulling to criminalize drunk driving, which was blamed for a number of fatal road accidents.

In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was found dead in his apartment in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao an District, on Wednesday morning.

He was said to have been drinking heavily with his colleagues the night before. (Han Ximin)
