Border crossing
AN estimated 2.58 million travelers would cross the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong during the Christmas period from Friday to Dec. 27, a 6.7 percent increase over the same period last year, the frontier inspection station said Thursday.
The number of cross-border travelers during the New Year period from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3 was estimated at more than 2.33 million.
Universiade food
EIGHT local enterprises had been chosen to supply farm produce for the Universiade.
Games organizers have designated other enterprises to supervise suppliers of a variety of food during the games. Approximately 13,000 athletes from 180 countries and regions are expected to attend the games.
MPC to meet in Jan.
THE second session of the Fifth Shenzhen Municipal People s Congress (MPC) will open Jan. 16. As well as reviewing government reports, the budget report and reports by the people s court and procuratorate, lawmakers will review overall planning for the 12th Five-Year Plan between 2011 and 2015, the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People s Congress said Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the second session of the Fifth Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will also be held in mid-January.
Holiday flights
SHENZHEN Airlines will add 1,174 flights for Spring Festival travel season between Jan. 19 and Feb. 20, with 90 percent of the flights departing Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
The airline started selling discounted round-trip tickets departing Shenzhen between Dec. 15 and Feb. 2 and return tickets between Feb. 5 and March 10. The tickets are for more than 60 routes departing Shenzhen.
