DOCTORS took an hour to remove a 40-centimeter eel from inside the body of a man in Longhua Subdistrict in Bao an District on Monday.

The 36-year-old man, identified only as Xiaoshuo, started suffering severe abdominal pain when he returned to his rented apartment in Longhua on Monday afternoon, the Daily Sunshine reported yesterday.

We kept asking him what happened, but he refused to say, his family said.

Xiaoshuo said later in hospital that, a little snake had wormed its way into his anus when he was defecating in the open air.

Doctors at the Longhua branch of Shenzhen People s Hospital said it was rare for an eel to enter a human body.

The 250-gram eel was dead when doctors removed it.

However, doctors and the family doubted his explanation, the paper said.

According to a report in yesterday s Shenzhen Evening News, the eel entered the man s anus when he was playing with it in a bathtub.

Doctors warned people against defecating near damp areas in the open air.

On Aug. 10, an eel was reported to have entered a man s anus in Nanjing and remained alive for 19 hours before being removed by doctors, according to a report by the Nanjing-based Yangzi Evening News. (Li Hao)
