MORE than 100 university students from Europe will arrive in Shenzhen to attend the Global Youth Gala, a flagship activity to celebrate the opening of the 2011 Universiade in August next year, the city s committee of the Communist Youth League of China said.
The exchange will be conducted between Aug. 8 and 12 with a series of activities involving university students from across the world, organizers said.
One of the key activities would be a beach music festival for international university students at Dameisha Beach in Yantian District. More than 10,000 university students from around the world were expected to attend. Campus singers and bands from other countries, Shenzhen, Beijing, Taiwan and Hong Kong will be invited to perform at the festival, said Liu Yan, head of the youth league s Shenzhen committee.
This is part of the 2011 China-Europe Youth Exchange Year program and we hope it helps improve relations and understanding between university students in China and Europe, Liu said.
Before attending the opening ceremony of the 2011 Universiade on Aug. 12, the university students would have a face-to-face talks with several ambassadors to China to discuss global issues, such as environmental protection and globalization.
There would also be cultural exchange activities involving students from Europe and students representing Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao during the event.
They would combine Universiade voluntary services together with Shenzhen volunteers Aug. 11, Liu said.
During their stay, they would also visit tourist attractions, high-tech companies and shopping centers.
They would leave Shenzhen for Dongguan and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province on Aug. 12.
