New line
METRO Line 2 from the Window of the World to Chiwan in Shekou carried 17,000 passengers yesterday, the first day of operations, Shenzhen Metro Group sources said. Although commuters were satisfied with the faster service, some complained it closed too early at 7:30 p.m during the trial period.
Line 1 extension
THE extension of Line 1 between Shenzhen University Station and Xixiang Station in Bao an District went on trial operation without carrying passengers yesterday. It took nearly four years to complete the section from Xixiang to the airport which will be trialled at the end of February. The entire Line 1 from Shenzhen Railway Station to Shenzhen Airport will open in June.
Apartment fire
MORE than 100 residents had been evacuated from a building following a fire in an apartment in Mingzhi Subdistrict, Bao an, yesterday. The fire in a room on the fourth floor of the building in Shuiwei Village was probably caused by an electrical short circuit, according to the landlord. It started at noon and was put out in 30 minutes. No one was injured. The cause is under investigation.
