Freeze halts transport

COACH and air services from Shenzhen to Guizhou Province have been suspended because of freezing weather which has caused traffic chaos in the southwestern province, www.sznews.com reported yesterday.

Media reports said more than 6,200 people had been stranded on expressways in Guizhou after the freeways were forced to close. Freezing rain had lashed 62 counties and cities in the province. Transport services won t resume until weather conditions improved, Shenzhen airport said.

Mobile crime fighters

TWO vehicles serving as mobile police stations have been patrolling in Futian District neighborhoods since Saturday, Chinese-language media reported. The mobile police stations in Futian and Shatou communities contain necessary equipment required by police. The vehicles are painted with a police sign to help residents identify them as a place to report criminal activity.

Services extended

METRO services on Line 3 were extended by one hour to 10 p.m. yesterday and today to cater for the large passenger traffic during the three-day public holiday. More than 180,000 passengers have taken Line 3 each day since Saturday.
