A MAN had to pay seven yuan (US$1.06) for staying in the Metro network for more than two hours Sunday.
The passenger, identified only as Li, was going to Gangxia Station from Children s Palace Station when he fell asleep.
When he woke up he was at Luohu Station, the Daily Sunshine reported.
He took the train back to Gangxia Station but found his Shenzhen Tong card would not work.
Shenzhen Metro charged Li seven yuan. It was the first time I knew about the overtime charge, said Li. The Metro company gave me two tickets instead of a receipt.
An unidentified Shenzhen Metro official said the charge was included in the instructions for Metro travel.
There is no receipt for the overtime charge because it is not a fine but additional fare, said the official. The overtime charge has already been registered with the transportation authority.
Two hours is enough time for all passengers and it is also for safety reasons preventing people staying on the Metro for too long, he said. (Tina Chen)
