TRAFFIC police have detained a driver who illegally parked his truck in a tunnel in Yantian District on New Year s Day resulting in a small car crashing into the rear of the truck and killing a back-seat passenger.
The car was carrying four people.
The driver, identified as Zhao, was allegedly drunk and fled the scene after the accident, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Thursday.
Zhao parked the truck in Linchang Tunnel on Shenyan No. 2 Expressway in the early hours of Jan. 1, and fell asleep.
The registration number of the truck was recorded on monitoring cameras in the tunnel and police later found the truck in a car park in a residential complex in Yantian.
Using registration details, police traced the home of the driver and detained him.
Zhao said he had been drinking beer before driving. (Li Hao)
