Buses on ice

MORE than 20 long-distance coaches from Shenzhen have been stranded en route to Sichuan Province and Shanghai because of the freezing weather, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday. It took more than 16 hours to cover a distance that could be covered in four hours under normal circumstances.

The freezing weather that has swept much of South China cause traffic chaos in Guizhou, Jiangxi and Hunan provinces as well as Guangxi in the past few days. Thousands of people spent the three-day New Year holiday clearing ice from provincial highways.

New housing contract

A NEW form of real estate purchase contract was officially introduced Tuesday, Chinese-language media reported yesterday, quoting city land resources and housing authorities.

The new contract was said to have been designed to reduce the number of disputes during transactions by detailing the liabilities of property vendors, buyers and real estate brokers. The reports said a sample of housing project apartments was also included in the contract, meaning that apartments sold in the same housing project must be in accordance with the sample apartment.

TEU throughput

CONTAINER throughput at Shenzhen port was 22.5097 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent unit) in the year 2010, an increase of 23.34 percent over 2009. In the year 2010, Shenzhen port handled 221 million tons of goods, an increase of 14 percent over 2009, the city transport commission said Tuesday.

Taiwan flights

CHINA Southern Airlines will add 80 flights between the mainland and Taiwan, including 18 flights between Shenzhen and Taipei, during the Spring Festival transport period between Jan. 18 and Feb. 22. The airline advised Taiwanese travelers returning the island to stagger their trips by traveling on Spring Festival holidays.

Back wages recovered

SHENZHEN labor authorities have helped recover back wage and overtime payments totaling 26.72 million yuan (US$4.04 million) in a month-long campaign launched in November.

Labor authorities have checked 7,327 enterprises after it received complaints of unpaid salaries on the nine hotlines it opened exclusively for the campaign, the human resources and social security bureau said Tuesday.
