DETAILS of the family assets of government-subsidized housing applicants have been added to the final eligibility list posted on the Web site of the city s housing and construction bureau after a public outcry over the list.
The list has been released for 15 days of public scrutiny, which is due to end Jan. 14.
The details included the applicants bank deposits, market value of financial products such as stocks and commercial insurance as of Dec. 31, 2009, which was before the start of the first round of official checks for eligibility, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
Family incomes for 2008 and 2009 were also provided on the list.
The bureau posted the renewed list Tuesday without informing the media or giving an explanation for the added details, the paper said.
Media reports have cast doubt on the final eligibility list, which was released on the bureau s Web site the day before the New Year public holidays. This was described as bad timing because holidaying residents were probably unlikely to notice the list, according to media reports.
Residents have speculated that the list was intentionally released at holiday time to cover flaws in the bureau s assessment. But doubts remain about the new list.
About 100 applicants on the new list each had a private car worth more than 100,000 yuan (US$15,106), most of which had been used for many years.
More surprisingly, one household owned four cars, the paper said.
Official checks for eligibility took one year and disqualified about 2,500 applicants, some of whom were involved in fraudulent practices in applying for low-cost housing.
The applicants were assessed at subdistrict, district and city levels before being added to the final eligibility list. (Li Hao)
