HAINAN Airlines will open its first air route to Sydney, Australia, via Shenzhen on Jan. 19.
The flight between Hangzhou and Sydney will operate three times a week. According to Shenzhen airport, the flight will depart Shenzhen at 7:20 p.m. (local time) on Mondays and Wednesdays, arriving in Sydney at 7:40 a.m. (local time) the following day. It will depart Sydney at 10:40 a.m. (local time) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, arriving in Shenzhen at 5:10 p.m. (local time), before heading for Hangzhou.
Saturday departures will leave Shenzhen at 6:55 p.m. (local time) and arrive at Sydney at 7:15 a.m. (local time) the following day. It will depart Sydney at 10:10 a.m. (local time) Sunday and arrive in Shenzhen at 4:40 p.m (local time), Shenzhen airport said yesterday.
In another development, Jade Airlines will add two cargo flights a week on the Shenzhen-Shanghai-Chicago-Amsterdam route from Jan. 14.
The flight will depart Shenzhen at 7:40 a.m. International cargo turnover at Shenzhen airport reached 183,000 tons, almost tripling the 2009 tonnage. The increase was attributed to the operations of the UPS Asia Center at Shenzhen airport and the opening of cargo routes to cities such as Manila, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Incheon, Seoul, Tokyo and Singapore. Shenzhen airport now has 19 cargo routes and 125 cargo flights a week.
