Elderly killed

AN elderly pedestrian was killed when a car lost control and hit her yesterday morning on Xinxi Road in Pingshan New Zone. The woman, in her 60s, was crossing the road when the driver turned into Xinxi Road at speed and hit her. The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a nearby fruit store and injured the owner. Doctors pronounced the elderly woman dead at the scene and police detained the driver for questioning.

Road to close

POLICE will close a section of Aiguo Road between Huali Road and Yijing Road in Luohu District on Friday in preparation for the annual Shenzhen Spring Festival flower fair, police said. The 30th flower fair will open Jan. 29 and run until Feb. 2, the Chinese New Year s Eve. The road would reopen Feb. 3, police said.

GUANGMING New Zone would spend 17 billion yuan (US$2.57 billion) on 117 projects to build a comprehensive public transport system in the five-year plan between 2011-2015, the Shenzhen transport commission said yesterday.
