Flowers to HK
SHENZHEN nurseries exported more than 340 tons of flowers worth more than US$90,000 to Hong Kong from Jan. 1 to 9, a 27-percent increase over the same period last year, according to the entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau.
Pirated players
SHEKOU Customs last week seized more than 9,000 pirated Casio DVD players worth about 1 million yuan (US$151,000), the department said yesterday.
A local company declared the DVD players for export.
Exam tragedy
A SCHOOLBOY allegedly killed himself by jumping from a wall after he was not allowed to sit for the final examination.
According to mother of the boy who attended Henggang Central Primary School in Longgang District, he was depressed because his teacher had left him out of the examination because his work was not up to standard.
Huang Yuanshen, a lawyer at Guangdong Zhiming Law Firm, said teachers and schools had no right to deprive children of the right to education, including examinations.
Passengers killed
TWO passengers taking an electric-bike taxi were killed when they were hit by a dump truck in Bao an District on Sunday. When the truck driver was found Monday, he claimed he was not aware of an accident.
The electric-bike rider, Hou, said he was hit by a dump truck overtaking him at Hezhou Flyover on Sunday evening. When he regained consciousness, he found the two passengers, a man and a woman, had been killed.
Police tracked down the driver, Wang, on Monday, but he insisted he was not aware of the incident.
