Back pay dispute

SIX workers climbed to the top of a residential building in Shajing, Bao an District, yesterday, threatening suicide if the project contractor didn t pay back wages.

Police persuaded the workers to come down after long negotiations. They claimed the housing developer of Rongtai Garden had refused to pay back wages of 80,000 yuan (US$12,085) to the workers. Police and the Shajing labor authority had stepped in to investigate.

Strike stops buses

DRIVERS and conductors of No. 337 and 338 buses of Shenzhen Western Bus Group went on strike yesterday at a bus terminal near the Waterland Resort in Bao an District over low wages. The strike halted 176 buses. The city transport authority to deploy 114 buses on the routes.

The two bus routes were merged with Shenzhen Western Bus Group last June from private contractors under government public bus reforms. The Western Group had agreed to resolve reasonable demands.

T3 completed

ENGINEERING work on the Terminal 3 building at Shenzhen Airport was completed yesterday after one year of construction. The terminal, which covers an area of 450,000 square meters, will open next year. It is three times the size of T1 and T2 combined, with 62 aprons. The airport is expected to handle 45 million travelers a year when it opens.
