BINHAI Hospital in Nanshan District, the city s biggest nonprofit public hospital, will open this year, a meeting of the city health authority was told last week.
Owned by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and to be managed by the University of Hong Kong, the main construction had been completed and interior fittings and decoration would be finished by the middle of the year, Jiang Hanping, director general of the city health, population and family planning commission told the meeting which was discussing plans for the next five years.
Nonprofit services and for-profit services would be kept separate. The nonprofit services, including basic health care, would be charged at prices set by the provincial health authority. Services for profit, such as special care, would account for 20 to 30 percent of the revenue and charges would be decided according to the market, Jiang said.
Meanwhile, the building housing operating theaters at Shenzhen People s Hospital in Luohu District will also open with more beds this year.
The city plans to build seven hospitals in Shenzhen between now and 2015. The new hospitals would be mainly in Bao an and Longgang districts. They will include two new public children s hospitals in Longhua in Bao an and Longcheng in Longgang. A rehabilitation hospital would also open in Nan ao in Longgang District.
There are also plans to promote the development of private medical organizations in the next five years, particularly high-end private hospitals and clinics. Private medical organizations are expected to account for at least 30 percent of the city s total health care by 2015.
Another eight projects are under construction to provide another 15,000 beds.
The health department will also concentrate on preventing major health incidents, such as infectious disease outbreaks, food and water poisoning, and other public health emergencies in the lead-up to the Universiade in August.
